The Mary Valley Show Society and the Imbil Showgrounds are the focus of activities for one of the Sunshine Coast’s biggest events of the year, the International Rally of Queensland on 30 July – 1 August. On Saturday and Sunday, the showground becomes the Novus Autoglass Service Park, where more than 70 competing cars from Japan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and Australia will be based for their competitive stages in the Imbil and Kenilworth State Forests. And even in the days before, the showground will fill steadily with containers, trucks, media equipment and other infrastructure. While cars compete against the clock over gravel stages in the nearby forests, they will return regularly to the showground for refuelling, fresh tyres, driver refreshment and, sometimes, repairs. The scene will be similar to the pits at a race track and is expected to attract thousands of spectators, who also will return from the forest Spectator Park to “refuel” with food and drink provided by the show society. Many crews will camp at the showground and enjoy the U-ROCK when IROQ concert on Saturday night, featuring bands, drinks and dinner for a nominal charge.
The rally finishes at the showgrounds on Sunday afternoon.
The showgrounds are the ride base of the Far A Way Endurance Riders Association and each year up to 4 major events are held. Many of these events attract international competitors who return year after year to compete.
The grounds are in close proximity to the Imbil State Forest which provides some of the best endurance trails in Australia. The Easter Carnival is the largest endurance ride in Australia.
Many local competitors frequently use the grounds as a base to train in the Imbil Forest.

Over 30 years ago the Imbil Campdraft was an annual event that attracted many competitors. The cutout yard was exceptional and is spoken of today by many competitors of yesteryear.
In 2009 the event was run for the first time in 30 years as a fundraiser for Miss Gympie Showgirl entrant, Ashleigh Ensbey. It was highly successful, cattle ran well and a large amount of money was raised. It has been decided that it is now to be an annual event in September and proceeds will go to the Mary Valley Show Girl entrant in the following year.
In November the annual cent sale is held in the Imbil Hall. There is a bargain for everyone. It is a large fundraiser for the society so don’t forget, anything that you have that you need to find a home for, it would be very much appreciated by the members to add to their cent sale.
At the end of the year the show society hold a Xmas Party for the community of the Mary Valley. All proceeds go to the funding of the following years event. Rides for the children are free, free admission to everyone, lots of displays and stalls, raffles, live entertainment and bar. Food and drinks are available till late.
